Post subject:  Male / Female speech differences

I would like to suggest that there be a male/female option when registering. Having started Japanese, I've learned that male and female speech patterns are different (such as ぼく [boku] instead of わたし [watashi]).

I'm sure there is a formula to convert all "Watashi" into "Boku" provided that the user is male. When choosing gender, it should be stated that the choice affects learning. Of course, a "prefer not to answer" could be available; in which case would probably default to feminine speech.

I haven't yet learned to what extent the speech varies, so I guess a simple lesson (that may already exist) could tell the user of the differences. Though, I feel it is best to know early.

This is a wonderful site, and I would like to thank the team behind it. Great work, and sorry for my impatience if there already is a lesson regarding this subject. On another note I'd like to say that the occasional grammatical errors are entertaining. I understand that the site was originally written for French to Japanese (so I've read). It helps make the reading feel less like a boring text book (though In lesson 3, page 5, the "Moi en Toi' got a little confusing).

Watashi is for female and male users.

It's atashi which is only used by female users .

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Though, I guess the point still stands, which would be to make learning speech more gender biased. Which I guess isn't in the later lessons?
