When speaking about the members of your own family, I've read that you can use 兄 to express "older brother", 弟 to express "younger brother", 姉 to express "older sister" and 妹 to express "younger sister". I've also read that you can use 姉妹 to name your sisters and 兄弟 to name your brothers and your siblings in general. But I've come across with this word: 兄弟姉妹 (keiteishimai), which is said to designate the siblings too. Is it better to use this one or 兄弟 for that purpose? Is there a word to name a brother or sister ("singular" and without gender).

And how would those words be translated to talk about members of another person's family?

Sorry for the mistakes, and thanks for helping.

兄弟姉妹 means "siblings" ((a) brother(s) and (a) sister(s)...well many people) but there are other appropriate words for 2 siblings

兄妹 "a older brother and a younger sister"
姉弟 "a older sister and a younger brother"

You can say "name-san + お兄さん /お姉さん /弟さん/ 妹さん" to talk in polite way about "name-san's older brother/older sister/little brother/little sister".
