I am very happy to announce that JA Sensei 6.0 is now available on Google Play.

This new version marks an important milestone in the evolution of the app. Over the past several months, a huge amount of work has been done behind the scenes to modernize JA Sensei, strengthen its stability, and improve your daily learning comfort.

The goal was not to change everything abruptly, but to help JA Sensei evolve while preserving what has made it unique since the beginning.

A greatly modernized interface

JA Sensei now benefits from a major visual redesign. Nearly every screen has been reworked to provide a more modern and clearer interface. 

A new “Today” section

The main menu has evolved with the arrival of a true "Today" section, designed as your daily starting point.

You can now more easily find:

• your daily progress
• your reviews to complete
• items to learn
• recommended lessons
• useful search shortcuts

The idea is simple: help you instantly know what to do today, without having to search throughout the app.

Modernized quizzes

The quiz system has been thoroughly rebuilt, both technically and in terms of user experience. My goal was to prepare this part of the app for future improvements.

The configuration screens have been simplified, the results screens redesigned, several behaviors have been harmonized across modules, and everything is now clearer and more robust.

Study time tracking

JA Sensei now tracks the time you actually spend studying in the app.

The principle is simple:

• you set a daily learning duration based on your availability
• you study each day on JA Sensei until you reach your goal
• a sakura flower comes to validate your day in the "Today" screen

The goal is to help you stay motivated and consistent over time, without making your learning more complicated.

Complete rewrite of the review system (SRS)

The SRS, meaning the spaced repetition review system, is also one of the major projects of this version. It has been completely redesigned to make reviews more effective in the long term.

In practical terms, over time you could accumulate thousands of items to review. Managing reviews could become difficult. The new system was designed to avoid that situation. It may not be highly visible at first glance, but you should feel the benefits after a few days.

New learning tools

Several study tools have also been improved in this version.

• Flashcards have been extended to the Phrasebook and Radicals modules.
• The Phrasebook now also includes a hands-free audio mode. This mode, which already existed for vocabulary, allows you to learn without touching your device. It is especially convenient while commuting, walking, or during other everyday situations.

Simplified account creation

You can now create your JA account directly using your Google account. No need to fill out a form anymore. Of course, the classic registration method is still available.

An important step for the future

Version 6.0 is not just a content update. It is a new foundation, more modern and more solid, on which I will be able to continue improving JA Sensei in the coming months.

A great deal of work has been done to deeply improve the app. I hope you will feel this evolution in your daily use.
