Sadako Sasaki and the legend of the 1,000 cranes

The survivors of the atomic bomb during the second World War were called the "Hibakusha". One of them, a girl called Sadako Sasaki, born on January 7th, 1943, was heavily irradiated as she was only 1.5 miles away when the bomb exploded.
