I’m happy to announce that JA Sensei 6.1.2 is now available on Google Play.

This new version expands several key modules of the app with brand-new content, new search tools, and additional visual resources to help you better understand, practice, and memorize Japanese.

Kanji: readings aligned with Japanese reference standards

Kanji readings have been reviewed to comply with the official recommendations of the Jouyou and Kanken lists.

In practice, your quiz sessions will now focus on the essential readings you need to know for each kanji, while leaving aside rare and unnecessary readings. This update will help you make faster progress in reading Japanese.

Vocabulary: search for a word by drawing it

You can now search for words directly by drawing their kanji or kana. Simply tap the new brush-shaped button to the right of the search bar in the Vocabulary module.

If you are studying with external resources and come across a word you cannot read, this new search tool will help you find virtually any word. And don’t forget: with Unlimited Samurai access, you get a dictionary containing more than 136,000 words! Very useful for building your custom lists.

The Vocabulary module also includes 1,789 new original example sentences with audio clips. They will help you better understand how words are used in context, recognize natural Japanese phrasing, and gradually improve your ability to express yourself.

Reading: all stories are now illustrated

Illustrations have been added to every story in the Reading module.

These new images accompany the texts, make situations easier to understand, and create a more vivid and immersive reading experience. They also provide valuable visual cues to help you follow each situation and remember the stories more easily.

Lessons: take on a new Challenge

A new Challenge is now waiting for you after the lesson dialogues.

This additional mini-activity lets you immediately put what you have learned into practice while learning a few essential words from the lesson.

Grammar: 74 new lessons for JLPT N5 and N4

The Grammar module now includes 74 new lessons covering JLPT N5 and N4 levels.

These new resources will help you strengthen the foundations of Japanese grammar, better understand essential structures, and complement your JLPT preparation with a richer and more progressive learning path.

These new grammar lessons are also available on the website.
