Themes: JA Sensei
Friday, May 20, 2011

The French magazine Mobiles Magazine, which has had authority about mobile news and trends for 15 years, has selected JA Sensei among the best 270 applications for Android!

In the special edition n°3 released on May 18th, the team has tested JA Sensei and rated it 4/5! Not so bad for my first Android application, knowing that the Android Market already ahs more than 250,000 applications.

It will give me some more motivation, and I must admit I quite need it to go on developing such a challenging project.

Here is the French article with its translation on the right

JA Sensei lets you familiarize with the Japanese language. You can then learn progressively and by level Hiragana and Katakana, add Kana and Kanji in a personal list, listen and practice your pronunciation for each Kana...

3-level quizzes (easy, medium, difficult) along with an option for a countdown will let you check what you learnt, your concentration and target your weaknesses.

Learning how to write Kana by drawing them directly on your phone is one more feature. The developer has announced new modules (numbers, etc.) for the versions to come.

I just began using the app more after I premium version and took a break from learning for a few months!
Now it's fun to learn with the app and this site again!

The whole project look brilliant to me, but let me report a technical problem.

I use both android (premium) and PC versions, and there's an ussue with the ranking points cross-platform update. Seems like the PC gained points are sent to the mobile version automatically, but what I gain on my smartphone, particularly kana/kanji reading/writing, those points are not added here on PC, even after manual synchro by hands.
To have my points for the quizes I have to do them here on PC to have my points after exercising with lessons.

Sengyeok,
Samuraï points concerns JA website only.
It has nothing to do with JA Sensei.
As you might have noticed, the site has some extra features you can access for a month if you have at least 100 contribution points (or whenever you want if you have purachased an illimited samuraï) . For more detailed information about contribution points, please have a look below :

I like JA sensei so much that I have downloaded the android app and also purchased the extra functions that are not available for free. How nice if my support for JA sensei could earn me some samurai points :p

A great app. I love the idea to have all things related to japan and japanese in my android. The hiragana, katakana and kanji are just great. However, the lessons is a litle bit to hard for the fresh men. Furthermore, I would like to have a grammar reference guide module too.

However, Congrat for this great app. I'm already support and always will :).

Hi Chillerbill, I'm glad you appreciate my effort. I've still many things I want to improve and integrate regarding JA Sensei. I'm currently working on integrating the lessons directly in the application as it would help people a lot I think.

Being able to see all the meanings at the end of quizzes is honestly something I might not integrate very soon as my priority list is still too long and my free time too short. I hope you can understand.

Dear Raphael W,

The main reason why I joined this site is to show my appreciation for the absolutely fabulous app that you made. You can't imagine how much I appreciate your selfless effort and how much it's helping me out. I already wanted to tell you this the first time I used it! I sincerely wouldn't mind paying for this app, you deserve it. However, if I had to pay for it I might not have tried it out.

Tip:
I think it would make this great app even better if after you've done a quiz you can click on a Kanji so you see all meanings not just a couple.

TY so much, I hope you read this!
